VieTopik Privacy Policy

VieTopik is a self-study service for Korean, English and programming, built for Vietnamese learners. It is available as the website https://www.vietopik.com (also installable as a web app) and as the VieTopik Android app on Google Play (package com.vietopik.android, developer Vie Lang). The Android app opens the same website, so this policy applies to both in the same way. VieTopik is the data controller for the personal data described below and can be reached at chongnguoithuong@gmail.com. This policy explains what data VieTopik collects — in particular the data we receive from Google when you choose to sign in with your Google account — why we collect it, how we use, store, protect and share it, how long we keep it, and how you can access or delete it.
1. Summary
- You can use most of VieTopik without an account; signing in with Google is optional.
- If you sign in, we receive only your Google email address, name, profile picture URL and Google account ID.
- We use this data only to sign you in and to manage the courses you have enrolled in.
- We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising and do not share it with third parties.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time by emailing chongnguoithuong@gmail.com.
2. Google user data we access
When you sign in with Google, VieTopik requests only the basic scopes openid, email and profile, and receives:
- your email address,
- your name and profile picture URL as shown on your Google account,
- your Google account identifier.
VieTopik does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, calendar or any other Google service, and never receives your Google password.
3. How we use Google user data
- To create your VieTopik account, sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To show your name and profile picture in the app so you can see which account you are using.
- To unlock lessons available to signed-in members.
- To record and manage the courses you have enrolled in (which course, until when). VieTopik administrators can see your email and name for this purpose only, for example to activate a course you purchased.
- To reply to you when you contact us about your account.
We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not send marketing emails. We do not use Google user data to develop, improve or train generalized artificial intelligence or machine learning models. Humans do not read your data except administrators performing the tasks above, when you ask us to, for security reasons, or when required by law.
4. Other data we collect
- Learning data (on your device only). Your study progress, answers, mock-test results, mistake notebook, notes and drawings are stored only in your browser on your own device (localStorage and IndexedDB). They are not uploaded to VieTopik servers. Clearing your browser data removes them; you can export a backup file from the Profile page.
- Microphone (on your device only). Pronunciation and shadowing practice use your microphone only after you grant permission (in the Android app, the microphone permission is asked the first time you use a speaking exercise). Recordings are processed and scored on your device and stored only on your device; they are never uploaded to VieTopik or anyone else.
- Sign-in session. When you sign in, a session token is stored in your browser so you stay signed in. It is removed when you sign out.
- Usage statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies, does not identify you and does not link page views to your account.
- Technical logs. Like any website, our hosting and database providers automatically record technical request data (such as IP address, browser type and time of request) to operate and secure the service. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to identify or profile you.
VieTopik does not use advertising or tracking cookies and does not show ads.
5. Storage and security
Your email, name, picture URL, Google account identifier, sign-up time and last sign-in time, together with your course enrollments, are stored in our authentication and database provider, Supabase. Access is protected by row-level security: each user can read only their own records, and only VieTopik administrators can read the account list. All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS) and encrypted at rest by our providers.
6. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, share, transfer or disclose Google user data to third parties, except to the service providers that run VieTopik on our behalf and process data only on our instructions — Supabase (authentication and database) and Vercel (website hosting and page-view statistics) — or when required by law, or to protect the safety and security of our users and service.
7. Limited Use disclosure
VieTopik's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
8. Retention and deletion
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing chongnguoithuong@gmail.com from the email address of your account (or via VieTopik on Threads). We will delete your email, name, picture URL, Google account identifier and course enrollments within 30 days of your request. You can also revoke VieTopik's access at any time in your Google Account (Security → Third-party apps & services). Learning data on your device can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser data for vietopik.com.
9. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, or withdraw your consent, by emailing chongnguoithuong@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
10. Children
VieTopik is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has signed in, contact us and we will delete the account.
11. Changes to this policy
When the way we collect or use data changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
